First Evening-Dinner

A tired out Amanda walked in as one of the earlier ones to the Great Hall. Her messenger bag which was swinging at her side was full with papers and books that were for homework. She plopped down at the Raven Claw table, piling her plate with a baked potato and some grilled chicken. Then came the greedy amounts of butter and cheese onto said potato.

Rachel was sitting in a little spot on the Ravenclaw table by herself, eating some shepherd's pie, looking rather glum. The first day was NOT how she expected it to me. Sure, her visions of stardom and popularity on the first day were a little far fetched, but they were not impossible.

But they didn't even come close to happening. Nope. For some reason, her reputation was already established as being one of the many, labelled "unpopular ones"

So here she was, eating her dinner all by herself.

Amanda noticed the girl from before, surprised that she was sitting alone. Only since the girl had been so... loud? You could tell her presence was there. She schooched down the table across from her. "Hi, I'm not sure if we've properly met yet!"

The boy from earlier that morning made a reappearance, only now dressed in scarlet and gold and seated on the opposite side of the great hall. He had also removed his glasses. No, no, don't be silly. This wasn't the same boy, this was his twin brother, who has somehow found enough favor with this user to be included in this revamp. There he was, slouching, as always, over a bowl of steaming French onion soup. He watched the surface of the dish, waiting for the cheese to melt accordingly and for the croutons to soak up all they could of the soup itself. Delicious.

"Um, hi." Rachel looked at the girl, who blue eyes flashing a little. "You're in my house." she said. "I saw you at the sorting, and you're in the same dorm room as me." Rachel reached her little hands over for a tureen of Irish Stew, but she couldn't. "Do you mind if you pass that to me? I want a bowl small bull of it." she demanded.

Oh gosh... she's a bit scary. "Oh sure." Amanda nudged the bowl closer to Rachel, looking around everywhere for some sort of conversation starter. "Enjoying your classes?" Yes, it was lame, but everyone starts somewhere, no?

Rachel happily served herself, and then tore a few pieces of bread from a loaf for the soup. Obviously, she was very hungry.

"Too be honest, not a whole lot. I'm not very good at any of them, and I'm a pureblood! Isn't that funny?" she said bluntly, with a hint of pride about the pureblood part.

"Oh, well, I suppose it takes practice. But hey, a lot of people are saying a lot of the muggle borns in our year are really good so it's all pretty ironic." Amanda added some more cheese to her potato, as she spoke.

Rachel stared at Amanda loading cheese on her potato, before she finally couldn't stand it anymore. She reached over and snatched the potato, and set it on her playing. With a quick movement, she grabbed a little bit of spring onion, and chopped it into tiny pieces and then put that on top of it.

"A potato is no good unless there is a little onion on it. Especially one as cheesy as yours." she then passed it back, with a proud expression on her face.

Amanda stared at her potato as it was being onionized. And that stare turned into a glare as she plucked out the bits of onions. "I'm not the biggest fan of onions." She took a large bite of the potato, and he face puckered up. She forgot an onion bit. Gulping it down, she began to advance on her chicken.

Rachel did not seem to realize that Amanda hated onions, and that she had picked them out from her baked potato. "Isn't that delicious?! The onion gives the potato a little extra crunch and bite, even if it's smothered in cheese."

"...Erm, I-" Amanda pointed to the pile and then, with a sigh, nodded. "It is delicious. I did get a bit carried away with my cheese this time though. But that's the great part of a potato. It's good any way you have it."

"I guess..." she said with a shrug. The chicken on Amanda's plate had caught her eye, and it looked perfectly delicious. "Say, do you mind if I try a bite of that?" And without waiting for an answer, she reached over and pulled off a little bit with her bare hands, and then popped it in her mouth, chewing it happily.

Amanda stared at her chicken which was now DEFILED. She cut off the bit that the hand had barely skimmed and smiled, bitterly saying, "Is it good? Haven't tried it yet." Taking the happy chewing as an answer, she took a bite of the untouched half using her knife, fork, and non-caveperson manners.

"It's great!" she exclaimed, after she swallowed. Using a napkin which she placed on her lap, Rachel daintily wiped her mouth with a smile. "Are you a little germophobic, because you cut off the part I touched? I mean, what's a couple germs, Mindy? It's not like a put my whole mouth on the chicken." Apparently, Rachel had a good eye for detail as evidenced.

Amanda was beginning to think Rachel only saw what she wanted. Like the cut of chicken, and unlike the pile of plucked out onion. Amanda hand-waved the notion away, "Of course not, I just cut the entire thing in half, easier to cut into little pieces I think." Not a complete lie... "Also, my name isn't Mindy. It's Amanda, so it'd be Mandy." The bitterness in her voice was rising.

"Oh, sorry!" Rachel apologized. "I have problems with names, you see, unless they've done something very memorable or I get to know them."

"Well, if you count the onion shock you have over me not putting the on, that's memorable!" Amanda laughed, the first attempt at a joke in this conversation.

"Ahahahaha... that's not very funny!" exclaimed Rachel. "You need to work on your comedy skills. But it's okay, we're all better or worse at different things!"

Amanda's smile fell. She was questioning if this was worth it. "Hah, that's true. I'm so excited to get some downtime to finish all this work after dinner. All the classes have fried my brain."

"Oh, I know! Have you had Professor Snape yet?! I HATE him! Him and Professor Binns! They can both die even though Binns is dead. Binns can just die all over again!" she exclaimed, stabbing her shepherd's pie.

Amanda nodded in agreement. "How can one person be so biased and cruel? And another just be so... blah!"

Serenity zoomed over to the spot where Rachel and Amanda were sitting. Apparently, nobody else was there she saw fit enough to bother- well, besides Angel's kinda hot twin. What was his name? Elmund or something? It didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. So, she sat down next to these two girls. "Hey! Do you have a roll over there?" She demanded. "I love rolls!"

Amanda looked around till her eyes found a bowl of fresh ones. She passed it to Serenity. "Here you go. Judging the steam and everything they look right out of the oven!"
