Clock Tower

Days, perhaps weeks, before the Quidditch game, Mél had caught sight of this lovely tower and had made a promise to herself to travel to the very top. At the cost of hours of effort and her left lung, she finally made it. Boy, was it ever worth it! You could nearly see half of the grounds from where she stood behind the face. Her own visage reflected the childish delight one might find on the face of a toddler first sighting the joys lying under a tinsel tree on Christmas morning. The sun had begun to set, casting long shadows over the Old Courtyard below.

The entrance to the clock tower was opened, and Amanda, huff and puffing from the long stair way, arrived. She had also seen this tower, but forced herself to wait until she finally had some free time, but, she thought it was a perfect award. The fleeting shadows of the large oak trees, the sky the perfect mix of purple and yellow, sort of like an artist's paints and pallets mixed together, and Mel---Mélanie!? She ignored the girl, going straight for the railings to continue her sunset watching.

Mél's ears pricked up at the sound of Amanda's mary-jane shoes hitting the stone below. She spun around, hoping she hadn't been caught. "Oh, Armando!"

Amanda froze, as if spotted like the prey of a wild beast. She turned, "Amanda. Hello, Mél."

"Yep! That was Portuguese!"

Amanda sighed and dryly said, "Neat."

Mél nodded, beaming. She motioned for Amanda to join her on the platform above. "You've GOT to see this! Come on!"

Amanda hesitated, yet scurried up next to he,r and her jaw dropped.

Mél flung her arms out like the wings of an owl. "LOOK AT THIS! Isn't it aMAZing!?"

Amanda nodded. "It's so pretty, Mel!" She leaned over the rail a bit, "I can't believe I haven't been out here before!"

"I haven't either! I figured, since it was so nice out today..." The lingering effects of climbing all those stairs remained in her voice.

Amanda nodded. "Same here... Hey, we should hang out some tmie."
